Tanzanite was first discovered in 1967 and it is named after its country of origin. It is only found in the Merelani Hills in Tanzania. Tanzanite is relatively rare and costly but not specially durable. Never clean tanzanite jewelry using an ultrasonic cleaner. Tanzanite is a December birthstone.
